Sweet Corn Sunday is a community event that began in Treloar, Missouri, in 2020, to celebrate the long-standing and rich agricultural heritage of the area by hosting an event organized with locals and the state.
With locally grown sweetcorn, grilled bratwursts, music, and tours, our hope is for visitors to develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for cultural landmarks, including the Treloar Grain Elevator, the Ted and Pat Jones Welcome Center, and Farmers Bank building (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), Burkhardt Grove (formerly “the Trees of Treloar”), and the Treloar Trailhead for the Katy Trail.
A Bit of History
Treloar embodies the story of a town that anticipated the arrival of the KATY Railroad in 1896, with much fanfare and success, thrived as a prosperous farming community, experienced economic downturns, and has been revived as a must-stop on Missouri’s longest state park – the Katy Trail.
From 2020 to 2024, Sweet Corn Sunday involved two communities in southern Warren County, Treloar, and Peers (3.5 miles to the east). Missouri State Parks has provided — and will offer yet again — a tram to take attendees on a narrated tour down the trail. Festival participants could also opt to cycle or walk on the trail to Peers. At Peers, guests visited the Peers Store which was built in 1896, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They also walked and photographed the Peers Prairie.
In 2025, the festival expanded to include Marthasville (7 miles to the east of Treloar, 3.5 miles east of Peers) due to generous grant funds from Horizon. Guests visited the large active grain elevator next to the trail, native trees planted by volunteers in 2020, and a vertical log structure at the La Charrette historical marker!
The Sweet Corn Sunday Lineup
Every year, amazing musicians share their talents with us. This year, for the first time in Warren County, The Opera Bell Band will perform for us an original: “A Salute to Corn”! The Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department will once again grill bratwursts and serve corn in Treloar. Last, but certainly not least, our MagMO Mascots, Maggie & Mo, will honor us with their presence as we shower them in adoration. What more could we want for this very special celebration?
All proceeds from this event go to the Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department.
